Upper Makefield is a second-class township in Bucks County, Pa. governed by a 5-member Board of Supervisors. Under the board’s direction, the township manager oversees the operation of the township and its departments, including administration, finance, building & code enforcement, public works, and public safety.

Mary Ryan became a resident of Upper Makefield Township in 1991. She has been very involved in township government as the Chair of the Upper Makefield Township Planning Commission since 2008, and a member since 2004. She joined the Streetscape Committee in 2001, and she has been a member of the Township’s Capital Improvement Oversight Committee (Streetscape) since 2006. In 2010 Ryan received the Township’s Volunteer of the Year award. She has been a volunteer at Washington Crossing Historic Park since 1994, and also is on the Board of Plant a Seed Foundation, which helps deprived children fulfill their dreams. She was a Finalist in the 2014 Lower Bucks County Chamber of Commerce Improving Quality of Life category.
A former Vice President of Merchandising and Design for London Fog, Inc., Ryan has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile Design from Philadelphia University (formerly Philadelphia College of Textiles). She has been married to her husband, John Paul, for over 24 years and is the proud mother of two sons: John and Sam.
