The U.S. Constitution mandates a census every 10 years. The population has been counted every decade since 1790. Why is it important? The data collected is the official population count and helps to determine critical decisions that will impact communities for the next decade, like federal funding allocated for programs and services and Congressional districts and representation. Businesses use the information to drive decisions based on population trends and growth potential.
Invitations to participate will be mailed in mid-March. Responses can be online, by phone or by mail. You may also notice census takers in the community as they verify addresses and help collect data. They will have a valid ID badge with photograph.
