It is with great sadness that the Upper Makefield Township Board of Supervisors and staff announce the passing of David Kuhns, Director of Planning & Zoning, after a brief illness.
Dave was a dedicated Township employee for 29 years. During his tenure, there was significant growth and change in the Township, and Dave kept a watchful eye to ensure that the interests of the Township were protected. Matters related to protecting open space and historic preservation were a top priority in order to maintain the character of the Upper Makefield community, and Dave’s ability to relay information in a calm and steady manner was appreciated by residents and co-workers alike.
In addition to his role as Director of Planning & Zoning, Dave also served as a member of the Emergency Management Team. During times of natural disaster and potential flooding, he could be found monitoring the river and preparing for any potential hazards.
Dave was also relied on to oversee maintenance of the Township Administration Building facilities and could often be found outside on winter mornings shoveling snow from the sidewalks and steps. He had a fondness for practical jokes, as those of us who worked with him will attest, that would occur when you would least expect them.
Dave lived in Hellertown and is survived by three adult children, a life partner and step-son. We ask you to keep his family in your thoughts.
