Some officers have attended several weeks of accident investigation training, including classroom time and actual hands-on training in the field. These officers would typically handle major accidents that occur within the Township, such as a fatality or commercial vehicle accident, and can also assist outside agencies as needed.

The Upper Makefield Township Police Department is a member of the Central Bucks Special Response Team (C.B.S.R.T.), which is a multi-jurisdictional agency comprised of twenty-one municipalities served by 18 police departments. Our Department has members who are either trained negotiators or tactical operators. Typical C.B.S.R.T. assignments would include high-risk warrant service, barricaded subjects, hostage situations, and other high-risk assignments requiring the specialized training and response of the C.B.S.R.T. team in central and upper Bucks County.

The Crisis Intervention Team (C.I.T) is an innovative first-responder model of police-based crisis intervention with community, behavioral healthcare, and advocacy partnerships. Most of the Upper Makefield Township police officers have completed a 40-hour training course on Crisis Intervention Training which provides evaluations and resource management of community members experiencing a mental health crisis.

The Upper Makefield Township Police Department has a highly trained sUAS (small unmanned aircraft systems) / drone operator that can provide aerial perspective in responding to public safety emergencies, law enforcement purposes and exigent circumstances. The drone can be deployed for situational awareness purposes, search and rescue missions, crime scene documentation, and pre-planning operations as well as other law enforcement and community related functions.

The Upper Makefield Township Police Department, along with the Newtown Township and Newtown Borough Police Departments, make up the Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Task Force. Upper Makefield has a certified commercial vehicle inspection officer who is assigned throughout the three townships on a regular basis to conduct commercial vehicle inspection details. These inspection details are conducted to ensure the operating safety of the vehicles and to reduce commercial vehicle accidents.

The Upper Makefield Police Department have officers assigned to the Bucks County Major Incident Response Team. These members respond to other parts of the county when a need arises for increased manpower due to area emergencies such as floods, large gatherings and / or storms events.
